Bobette Bryan's Poetry
I Won't
I held out my hand to you,
and I thought that you’d take it,
but you didn’t.
I put aside my pride for you,
and I thought that you’d welcome me,
but you didn’t.
I was happy to share with you,
and I thought that you’d want to share with me,
but you didn’t.
I showed I cared in countless ways,
and I thought that you’d noticed,
but you didn’t.
I threw out a line to you,
and I thought that you’d give it a tug,
but you didn’t.
I forgave you,
and I thought that you’d forgiven me,
but you didn’t.
I sacrificed so much for you,
and I thought that you’d appreciate it,
but you didn’t.
I waited for you,
and I thought that you’d waited for me,
but you didn’t.
I needed you,
and I thought that you needed me,
but you didn’t.
I had a plan for us,
and I thought that it would make you happy,
but it didn’t.
I gave myself to you,
and I thought that you’d never let me go,
but you did.
I’ve given up on you,
so if you think that I’ll still be there for you,
I won’t.
