Bobette Bryan's Poetry
I'm Not Sorry
My son said
I shouldn't write this poem.
He said: "What would people think?"
But I'm beyond caring
what people think.
And I apologize
for nothing.
I'm not sorry
for who I am,
for what I've done,
for what I've not done,
for what I've said,
for what I haven't said,
for what I've dreamed,
for what I've written
for what I've published.
And I don't apologize
for what I like,
for what I dislike,
for how I look,
for how I live,
for what I think,
for what I believe,
for who I love
for who I don't love.
And I don't care,
if someone
doesn't like it:
I never tried
to meet any standard
but my own.
And I don't
ask for forgiveness,
for permission,
for acceptance,
for approval,
or to fulfill anyone's
expectations of me.
And most of all,
I'm not sorry
for writing this poem.
